Presentation Title Common Stucco Problems and Repairs Presented By Lee Cope, P.E. Director of Restoration Southern Wall Systems Presentation Synopsis Discuss common problems associated with stucco and sources of distress. The presentation will also discuss common repairs for each source of distress. Biography  Mr. Cope is a licensed Professional Engineer who has extensive experience in detailing and proper installation of portland cement plaster (stucco) and Exterior Insulation Finishing System (EIFS) facade systems, air barriers, window systems, waterproofing, and the interfaces of various envelope components.  From May of 1999 to March of 2018 Mr. Cope worked at Wiss, Janney, Elstner where he evaluated a variety of structures relating to water intrusion and to the cause and/or distress of a building’s exterior facade/curtain wall systems and building envelope/structural systems. Since March of 2018, Mr. Cope has led the Restoration Division of Southern Wall Systems (SWS) where he has overseen the Preconstruction and Operations of all their Restoration Work. Since then, SWS has completed over $100 Million worth of Restoration Work. This work has consisted of reclads (stucco, EIFS, Masonry, and Hardie Cement Siding), waterproofing and concrete structural repairs. He is the Senior Buildings and Restoration Specialist in Georgia for Master Builders and has been with them for 14 years. He brings with him 31 years of experience in the construction industry and is a LEED® Accredited Professional as well as a Certified Construction Products Representative. Keith is a Past President of the Georgia Chapter of the International Concrete Institute (ICRI). Keith has a BS in Business Administration from the University of Central Florida and was an Air Defense Artillery Officer in the US Army. Presentation Synopsis Nate and Eric will discuss common types of distress observed at metal guardrail posts attachments to residential concrete balconies, and the types of repairs employed to address these conditions. Multiple case studies will be presented as examples of these repairs, including repair of guardrail post distresses seen in high-rise concrete framed and low-rise wood-framed construction, with a focus on guardrail post pockets at cantilevered concrete balconies. Speaker Biographies Nathan Reynolds has broad-based experience in the investigation, assessment, and rehabilitation of existing structures, and building envelope systems subject to water infiltration. He has been involved in numerous projects relating to the repair of the exterior wall systems of both historic and modern structures. Guest Speaker Merissa Gamba, PE SE Uzun + Case Presentation Title CAMPUS 244 – Case Study Presentation Synopsis This presentation begins with a basic introduction into the Campus 244 project. A renovation and vertical expansion to an existing 1970s office building. The presentation will then focus on the retrofitting aspects of the project. Column and beam strengthening along with the introduction of a new lateral load resisting system. It will then discuss the structural steel transfer floor along with the mass timber Level 5 and Roof. Program will wrap up with discussion of some challenges faced and lessons learned. Speaker Bio Merissa has over 20 years of experience in a wide variety of projects. She joined Uzun + Case in 1999 and was named a Principal in 2018. Her project experience includes higher education, institutional, public use, commercial, and mixed-use developments. She likes the challenge of unusual and complicated projects, such as the Georgia and Mississippi aquariums, Kennesaw State Recreation Center and the Georgia Tech Campus Center. BiographyMr. Powell is an Atlanta native that grew up in Dunwoody when it still had a few dirt roads.  He attended Dunwoody High School, GA Tech, and Auburn and upon graduation went straight into the concrete pipe and precast industry.  The recession of 2007 led him into concrete repair, running a crew doing epoxy and polyurethane injection. In 2012 Mr. Powell was asked to help start Alchemy Polymers (now Alchatek).  Currently he is the Director of Business Development

Biography Kyle started his career in high-performance coatings 7 years ago in the Northeast with Tnemec and Carboline. He has experience not only in specification work with engineers and architects and assisting contractors in the field but also on the backend, working on raw material sourcing and consulting with head chemists on formulations for various paint manufacturers. Kyle recently moved down to the Atlanta in July 2023 with the goal of expanding his career with Tnemec/Southeastern Resources.
