Case Study: Evaluation and Repair of a Parking Structure After a 7-Alarm Vehicle Fire

Presentation Synopsis
This case study involves the restoration of a precast parking structure subject to a 65-vehicle fire to its pre-fire conditions. Alex will discuss the basics of assessing fire-damaged concrete and the unique challenges faced by the project team to repair the damaged structural elements in-place during construction. 

Biography
Alex Katz is a Restoration Engineer for Walker Consultants’ Atlanta office. He joined Walker in 2016 with a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin where he performed research in prestressed concrete bridge girders. During his seven years at Walker, he has employed experience in structural evaluations, non-destructive testing, structural load testing, structural analysis, and maintenance and strengthening repair design on a wide variety of projects with unique challenges.

More of a mountain guy than a beach guy, he enjoys exploring the outdoors, be it camping, backpacking, kayaking, biking, or some other -ing. His ideal last meal would either be barbecue or tacos.
