Shear connectors are vital for maintaining structural integrity, but exposure to de-icing salts, moisture, and other corrosive agents significantly compromises their effectiveness. We examine corrosion mechanisms, structural implications, and the weakening of load-bearing capacity, along with evaluating detection methods and mitigation strategies.
