Topic

Selection and Specification of Exterior Wall Coatings

Concrete repair and restoration is not complete without a protective coating. Exterior wall coatings can both protect and beautify structures and they should always be a component of the restoration strategy.

Paint isn’t a coating and high-performance coatings vary in chemistries, attributes, and performance. Believe it or not, elastomeric coatings are not the cure all for all situations.

Understanding the different types of coatings, the needs of various substrates, and performance characteristics will help the owner, specifier, and contractor select and specify the best wall coating to maximize the aesthetics and protection of the restored structure.

This presentation will discuss types of and selection criteria for both new construction and restoration. Selection, specification, and installation of the optimal wall coating and compatible accessories can enhance the performance of the structure and complement a structure’s appearance.
