    Presenter: Dan Bigman Dan Bigman is the president of Bigman Geophysical, a company that provides applied geophysical and non-destructive testing solutions to engineers, contractors, utilities, municipalities, and government agencies. Dan received his PhD from the University of Georgia and is an expert in non-invasive subsurface mapping and 3D imaging. His projects have focused on the application of geophysics and non-destructive testing to archaeological, forensic, civil, and structural engineering problems including condition assessments of critical infrastructure such as nuclear facilities, bridges, hydroelectric dams, and industrial storage and processing facilities. The results of this work have been published in the scientific journals Water, Remote Sensing, and Case Studies in Construction Materials. Dan has conducted geophysical investigations, structural inspections, and technical workshops across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, and is currently an associate editor for the Journal of Environmental and Engineering Geophysics.

    Presentation Title: Essential Life Extension- Major Rehabilitation of the Main Parking Structures at the World’s Busiest Airport Speaker: Alex Katz Alex Katz is a Licensed Professional and Structural Engineer in Walker Consultants’ Atlanta office. He holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin where he performed research in prestressed concrete bridge girders. Alex manages a wide variety of structural assessment and repair projects for Walker Consultants. He enjoys taking on projects across a variety of structure types, providing his clients with innovative solutions, and forming relationships with colleagues in the repair industry. Alex has served as a Member of ACI Committee 563, “Specifications for Repair of Concrete in Buildings.” He is currently serving on ICRI Committee 210, “Evaluation” and sits on the Board for the ICRI Georgia Chapter. In addition to structural assessment and repair, Alex has also performed façade restoration services including rope access assessments skyscraper façades for a little more excitement.

In 1990 George purchased an existing manufacturer’s representative agency and, to provide building enclosure solutions more effectively, merged with another agency in 2001. Over the years George has provided numerous presentations, with a focus on Masonry and Building Envelope Solutions, to Architectural and Engineering Firms as well as to Industry Associations.

    Presenter: Merissa Gamba, PE, SE Presentation Title: Georgia Tech Campus Center Case Study Bio Merissa has over 20 years of experience in a wide variety of projects. She joined Uzun + Case in 1999 and was named a Principal in 2018. Her project experience includes higher education, institutional, public use, commercial, and mixed use developments. She likes the challenge of unusual and complicated projects such as the Georgia and Mississippi aquariums, Kennesaw State Recreation Center and Parcel A at 760 Ralph McGill Blvd. Presentation Summary This presentation starts with a basic introduction to the Georgia Tech Campus Center program. The presentation will then briefly cover the newly constructed buildings and their features. The presentation will then focus on the retrofitting of the late 1960’s existing concrete framed building. The program will wrap up with a discussion of some challenges and lessons learned.
