Presentation Title
The Impact of Corrosion on Shear Connectors in Double Tee Slabs and Its Role in the Deterioration of Precast Parking Garages
Synopsis: This presentation explores the impact of corrosion on shear connectors in double tee slabs and its role in the deterioration of precast parking garages. Shear connectors are vital for maintaining structural integrity, but exposure to de-icing salts, moisture, and other corrosive agents significantly compromises their effectiveness. We examine corrosion mechanisms, structural implications, and the weakening of load-bearing capacity, along with evaluating detection methods and mitigation strategies. The findings highlight the need for proactive design, construction, and maintenance practices to prevent corrosion, thereby enhancing the durability and safety of precast parking structures.
