Meeting Recap – September 17, 2015

UGA’s STRuctural ENGineering Testing Hub (STRENGTH Laboratory)

The ICRI-Georgia chapter held its September 2015 lunch meeting at the University of Georgia’s “ST”ructural “ENG”ineering “T”esting “H”ub (STRENGTH lab).  This was a joint meeting with the Northeast Georgia Branch of the ASCE.  James Dunlap was given some time to discuss the ICRI Mission Statement and our Chapter Goal of starting a student chapter and our upcoming scholarships that our chapter will be giving away at the end of the year.

The meeting started off with presentations led by UGA’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty and Researchers that covered a wide range of topics including past, current, and future research being conducted.  In addition, undergraduate and graduate presented their research studies which included a great project worked on by one of our 2014 scholarship recipients.  We were then treated to a full tour of the new $2 M STRENGTH Laboratory.

All said, we had a great time, learned about various types of research that is being conducted,  and  were exposed to some very interesting topics that may not have been on our radar in our everyday activities.
